Desk Set - 1957 - Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy

Whooo! Lots of dramas putting this one together. We had to shoot it twice!

We did a first version, but had problems with the sound, so had to re-shoot a week later. Hard to keep up the enthusiasm, but in the end I probably kept things tighter in the review.

Anyway, this is a fantastic film: one of my all time favourites, and I hope you're going to love it too.  Desk Set: 1957, 20th Century Fox. Directed by  Walter Lang, starring: Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Joan Blondell, Gig Young, Dina Merrill, Sue Randall, and Neva Patterson.

A glorious romantic comedy about The Future of the Modern Working World and Computers Therein - filled with beautiful intelligent people.

A couple of things that I ran out of time to mention: Neva Patterson, who plays Miss Warriner (Spencer Tracy's assistant) in the film, might look familiar to you. To avoid the 'Where Do I Know Her' blues - she plays Cary Grant's fiance in 'An Affair to Remember'. I don't think she ever really won out in films, to be honest. She might have been a fiance often enough, but I don't know how often she got to be the bride.

And Dina Merrill, who plays Sylvia Blair, was herself a socialite and an heiress. Still alive today, she apparently worth around $5 BILLION. Beautiful and wealthy. Sheesh.

Anyway - they are the little extra fun facts I have up my sleeve.

  1. Congratulations on this review, Kitty Hollywood! This is the first of your reviews I've watched and I found you and it most excellent and engaging. I love your background detail and insights into the relationships outside of and in the movie. I was inspired to watch it very soon after I read your review and I loved it - thank you!
